Quantitative metrics provide a tangible way to measure and evaluate the success of your community initiatives. These metrics can include key performance indicators (KPIs) such as user engagement, growth rate, retention rate, and conversion rate. By analyzing these metrics, you can gain valuable insights into the effectiveness of your community strategies.

2. Prioritize your stakeholders. Not all stakeholders have the same level of importance or influence in your community. Some may be more critical, supportive, or influential than others. You can use criteria such as power, interest, urgency, or legitimacy to rank your stakeholders according to their significance. For example, you can use a power-interest matrix to plot your stakeholders on a grid based on their level of power (how much they can affect your community) and interest (how much they care about your community). This can help you identify your key stakeholders, who are the ones with high power and high interest, and who should be the focus of your engagement efforts.

3. Diverse Perspectives: It’s important to include insights from different points of view to showcase the diverse range of experiences within your community. By featuring stories and testimonials from individuals with different backgrounds, industries, or roles, you can demonstrate the broad impact and inclusivity of your community. For example, Sarah, a young entrepreneur, shared how the community provided her with mentorship opportunities and access to a supportive network of experienced professionals.

2. Testimonials: Testimonials from community members, partners, or industry experts can add credibility and authenticity to your community’s value proposition. These testimonials can highlight specific benefits or outcomes that individuals have experienced as a result of their involvement in the community. For instance, John, a business owner, shared how the community’s resources and connections helped him expand his network and grow his business exponentially.

When preparing for the report and collecting both sentiment-based and metrics-based information, it’s important to consider the audience you are reporting to. For example, the community manager might be tracking the number of new visitors per month, number of comments, posts per month, number of reactions, and churn rate. In their reporting to the rest of the Community Team, they might only report on the number of comments, posts, and reactions. In their reporting to the executive team, they may focus mainly on the number of new visitors, as this is the metric that relates directly to the business goals.

How can your members share the impact the community has had on them? Encourage them to share their story on social media, or create a submission form that you then turn into member case studies!Gathering value creation stories is the art of community building. It requires time, personal connections, relationships and the space for members to share the value they are both creating and getting from the community.
